LeBron James: Trump is using sports to divide the country

LeBron James said that he has been forced to speak out against President Trump because Trump is using sports to divide the country.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star said in a video Saturday that he was “frustrated” because “this guy that we’ve put in charge has tried to divide us once again.”

“We all know what happened at Charlottesville and the divide that caused and now it’s even hitting more home for me now because he’s now using sports as the platform to try and divide us,” James said.

“We all know how much sports brings us together, how much passion it has, how much we love and care and friendships and everything it creates. And for him to try and use this platform, even more, it’s not something I can stand for, it’s not something I can be quiet about.”{mosads}

James said that it’s “not right” for Trump to tell NFL owners to fire players who kneel during the national anthem or for him to disinvite fellow basketball star Steph Curry from the White House.

“We, as American people, need to actually just come together even more stronger man,” James said. “This is a very critical time and me, in the position I am, I had to voice this to ya’ll.”

James has been a vocal critic of Trump and earlier condemned him for revoking an invitation to visit the White House after Curry said he wouldn’t attend.

Trump has been facing intense backlash for his comments at a campaign rally Friday night about NFL players who kneel during that national anthem.

“When people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem – the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium,” Trump said. “I guarantee things will stop.”
