‘Mock evacuation’ scheduled for Capitol on Wednesday

The Office of the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) is planning to conduct a mock evacuation safety exercise on Wednesday.

The exercise, which will take place on Second St, S.E., near Folger Park, will include “a safety team in appropriate protective gear (suits and respirators) exiting from a manhole and performing mock evacuation procedures,” according to Eva Malecki, a spokeswoman for the AOC.

“The U.S. Capitol Police and D.C. Fire and Rescue will also be participating in the safety drill,” Malecki said in a statement. “The exercise will begin at 9:30 a.m., and take approximately one hour. It will not impact neighborhood activities or local traffic.”
