President Barack Obama may have had the spotlight Tuesday night, but he was nearly upstaged by pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.
Sullenberger, who successfully guided US Airways Flight 1549 to a safe landing in the Hudson River on Jan. 15, got a rousing standing ovation moments before Obama entered the chamber to deliver hs address to a joint session of Congress.
The pilot also testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday morning. There, Sullenberger, whose calm under fire saved the lives of 150 passengers and his crew, said that difficult economic times make it difficult for airlines to hire the “best and the brightest” to pilot their planes.
