Palin enjoys Obama-esque numbers in Alaska

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) enjoys sky-high approval ratings in her native Alaska months after her vice presidential run, a new independent poll released this week shows.

Over 61 percent of Alaskans said they have either somewhat or very positive opinions of the first-term governor, who is up for reelection in 2010. Almost 33 percent of the state’s voters they had somewhat or very negative opinions of Palin.

The rumored presidential contender enjoys approval ratings in her home state almost similar to her would-be challenger, President Obama.

Palin has tried to keep a low profile beyond her state since returning from the national campaign trail. Even her pick or a pro-choice jurist for the state’s Supreme Court has led some conservatives to rally to her defense.

The poll, conducted by Hays Research Group on March 13, has a 4.9 percent margin of error.
