British pundit eats own book after bet on UK election results

A British pundit made good on his pledge to eat his own book after the results of the United Kingdom’s snap election this week.

Matthew Goodwin pledged in late May that he would eat his new book about Brexit if Britain’s Labour Party received more than 38 percent of the vote in Britain’s snap election.

The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn received 40 percent of the vote in the election, and Goodwin kept his word in an appearance on Britain’s SKY News.

“I am surprised that Corbyn added two percentage points to what I projected, and I did say that I would eat this book,” Goodwin said, holding a copy of his book on Brexit.

“I am a man of my word, so what I’m gonna do is sit here, and eat my book, while you guys carry on,” Goodwin continued. He then ripped out a page of his book and proceeded to eat it, after first plugging that it was for sale “at all good bookstores.”

The video of Goodwin eating his book quickly went viral on social media.
