Pharrell to Manchester: ‘Let the world hear your resilience’

Musicians gathered in Manchester, U.K. on Sunday night to perform at Ariana Grande’s “One Love Manchester” benefit concert honoring the victims of the terror attack at Grande’s concert last month.

The concert comes nearly two weeks after the terror attack at Grande’s concert that claimed the lives of 23 people, and one day after a terror attack in central London took the lives of seven people.

A wide variety of pop stars sang favorites and encouraged the crowd. Proceeds from the concert went to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund supporting the British Red Cross.

Marcus Mumford kicked off the concert Sunday evening in Manchester telling concert goers “Let us not be afraid.”

“Let the world hear your resilience,” singer Pharrell Williams told the crowd.

“Despite all the things that have been going on … I don’t feel or smell or hear or see any fear in this building,” he continued before being joined by Miley Cyrus to sing his hit single “Happy.”

“The biggest responsibility we have on this earth is to look after each other and look at what we’re doing, this is amazing,” Cyrus said.

“We love you, we are with you … the whole world is watching,” former One Direction singer Niall Horan said.

Iconic artist Stevie Wonder offered words of support in a video message, saying, “Love really is the way.”

“Anyone who says destruction has anything to do with God or Allah, it’s a lie,” Wonder said, condemning religious extremism.

Grande appeared on stage after her manager Scooter Braun delivered a message to the singer’s fans and the victims of the attack.

“Fear will never divide us because on this day we all stood with Manchester,” Braun said. 

“I think that the kind of love and unity we’re displaying is the kind of medicine we need in the world,” Grande said.

Former Manchester United soccer star David Beckham sent a video message saying, “Tonight is about remembering those who suffered so much on that night, but also about celebrating the spirit of this great city.”

British pop star Robbie Williams also performed, as well as Justin Bieber, The Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Little Mix, Katy Perry, Take That, Usher and Imogen Heap.
