Maersk wants to negotiate captain release without Navy

MSNBC is reporting that the owners of the Maersk Alabama, the cargo ship hijacked on Wednesday by Somali pirates, are seeking to negotiate the release of the captain without the help of the U.S. Navy.

The captain of the ship, Richard Phillips, was taken hostage on Wednesday. Another captain, Shane Murphy, is negotiating the release, according to MSNBC.

A U.S. Navy destroyer has reached waters near the Maersk Alabama to help with rescuing the captain.
