Reid: my caucus didn’t know
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he acted mainly on his own in negotiating Arlen Specter’s party switch.
“There was not a single member of my caucus who knew how far I’d gotten with Senator Specter,” Reid said at a press conference, adding that he decided to “keep my mouth shut until it happens.”
Reid also said that Specter’s previous commitment to vote against card-check is not a deal breaker for Democrats.
“There may be another iteration of card check coming along,” Reid said, hinting Specter may eventually take a position that will satisfy labor.
