Women’s march reaches Antarctica

Millions of people are gathering on Saturday for women’s marches and demonstrations around the world — even in Antarctica

Women and men on an expedition to the Earth’s most remote continent will march on their ship, harbored just off the coast, waving signs declaring “Penguins for Peace” and “Love from seven continents,” among other slogans, according to the group’s website.

“Due to the environmental sensitivity of the area, we can’t leave any marks, trampled messages, etc.,” the site says.

In Washington, hundreds of thousands of women and supportive men will take to the streets of the city, one day after President Trump formally took office. Trump has been criticized for his disparaging remarks about women, immigrants and Muslims, among other groups.
