President Trump’s inaugural speech on Friday was a “primal scream” aimed at the Washington political class, MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough tweeted shortly after Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.
In another tweet, Scarborough said he agreed with CNN host Jake Tapper that the speech was the “most radical inaugural address” he had ever heard.
Scarborough, a former GOP congressman from Florida, has at times been a critic of Trump, and the two engaged in a feud that has largely unraveled on Twitter.
{mosads}Scarborough’s comments came less than an hour after Trump delivered an inaugural address in which he painted the United States as a country of downtrodden and weary workers savaged by a power-hungry political class.
“Today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another – but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the American People,” Trump said.
“For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.”
Trump campaigned for the White House as a successful business leader and outsider capable of upending the political system and bringing manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.
But the newly elected president has also been the subject of criticism for his lack of political experience, demeaning campaign trail remarks and combative style.
