The Club for Growth named Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) the “Comrades of the Month” on Friday.
In a statement, the conservative Club for Growth criticized Waxman and Markey, who both sit on the House Energy and Commerce Committee (Waxman is the chairman), for their work on energy legislation that the Club says will cause the cost of gasoline to rise. The Club also characterized the cap-and-trade legislation that Waxman and Markey support as a “massive new energy tax,” a common criticism from the right.
The cap-and-trade legislation seeks to significantly reduce the country’s carbon foot print.
Markey and Waxman are the fifth recipients of the Club for Growth’s “Comrade” award.
“Congressmen Waxman and Markey have created a recipe for economic disaster,” said Chris Chocola, the Club’s president.
