Mexican president says he’s willing to work with Trump

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump on his victory and expressed a willingness to work with the next president.

“I congratulate the USA for its electoral process and I reiterate to @realDonaldTrump our willingness to work together in favor of the bilateral relationship,” Peña Nieto tweeted.

{mosads}Throughout Trump’s presidential campaign, he vowed to build a wall along the country’s southern border and said Mexico would pay for the wall.

In August, Trump visited Mexico and met with Peña Nieto.

Following the meeting, Trump said the two did not discuss the payment of the proposed border wall. But Peña Nieto later tweeted that he told Trump Mexico would not pay for the wall.

Trump faced criticism for his visit, with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton saying Trump “choked” during his visit.

“Until I’m president, I’m not going to press anything very much,” Trump said after the meeting in an interview with ABC News.

“But they fully know my stance. My stance is we’re going to build a wall and Mexico’s going to pay for the wall. It’s very simple.”
