John Lewis: New African American Museum a ‘dream come true’

Civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) says the opening of a new museum dedicated to African American history is “more than a building it is a dream come true.”

Lewis gave an emotional address Saturday at the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

{mosads}”There were some who said it couldn’t happen, who said you can’t do it, but we did, we did it. We gather today to dedicate a building, but this place is more than a building, it is a dream come true.”

This museum, Lewis said, “is the story of life, the story of our lives, wrapped up in a beautiful golden crown of grace.”

The new Smithsonian will open to the public Saturday afternoon, following the dedication.
