The father of the man who gunned down 49 people and injured 53 others at a gay nightclub in Orlando has questioned the “sloppy security” at the club while primarily blaming international terrorist groups for influencing his son.

Seddique Mateen said that while he wasn’t aware of the specifics involving Pulse nightclub’s security operations, he said when a club opens, “They should have enough security when 300 or 400 people come to the business.

{mosads}”The life of 400 people depends on that business,” he told members of the media, suggesting the club was skimping on its security to save money. “Maybe they [had] some kind of sloppy security.”

He suggested that social clubs should have 24-hour security guards, saying they could prevent attacks similar to the one carried out early Sunday.

Mateen spent several minutes at a press conference continuing to apologize for the actions of his son, Omar, while primarily blaming the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Mateen suggested U.S. officials needed to work harder to destroy the “horrible, terrible, killer group of ISIS,” adding, “I don’t know who created the ISIS, but that’s bad news for humanity.”

Mateen has said he wasn’t aware ISIS had influenced his son. President Obama said Tuesday that the shooter appeared “to have been an angry, disturbed, unstable young man who became radicalized.”

“I’m really speechless — what he did. I don’t forgive him as a father,” Mateen told CNN. “I wish I had an opportunity to talk to him about why he did what he did.”
