Trump: More downed planes will lead to global ‘depression’
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Friday predicted that more planes going down due to terrorism will lead to a worldwide “depression” as investigators look into the downing of an EgyptAir passenger jet this week.
“Another couple of planes go down, Mika, you’re gonna have a depression worldwide, the likes of which you’ve never seen,” Trump told co-host Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
{mosads}”Nobody’s gonna travel, there will be no anything, there will be no communication between countries, and you will have a problem the likes of which you’ve never seen,” Trump continued. “That plane didn’t go down because of mechanical failure.”
“Another plane was blown up and I can practically guarantee who blew it up,” the businessman insisted, referring to EgyptAir Flight 804, which disappeared while flying from Paris to Cairo on Thursday.
A U.S. review of satellite imagery hasn’t yet produced any signs of an explosion aboard the Airbus A320, Reuters reported Thursday night. The White House also said it didn’t “yet know definitively what caused the disappearance” of the flight.
Still, Trump on Friday defended his quick response, in which he claimed a link to terrorism the previous day without mentioning the families of the 66 passengers and crew aboard the passenger jet.
“Let me tell you what I’m thinking of, I’m thinking of the future,” Trump said on MSNBC. “We are being taken advantage of by radical Islamic terrorists and this world is changing.”
