Political strategist James Carville says Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton “needs” rival Bernie Sanders if she wants to win the presidency in November.
“It’s not an equal negotiating position because Bernie Sanders does not need Hillary Clinton, because he’s not going to be the nominee,” Carville said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Carville said the two candidates won’t be in an “equal position” as they enter negotiations to wrap up the Democratic presidential primary race.
He compared it to the 2008 primary, when Clinton ran against then-Sen. Barack Obama, adding he does not expect the negotiations to be too difficult.
“But it’s going to be something that’s going to have to be dealt with,” he said.
Clinton has a nearly insurmountable lead over Sanders in the delegate count, but Sanders has said he plans to stay in the race until the Democratic National Convention in July.
