LAPD confirms knife found on OJ Simpson’s former property
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on Friday confirmed that a knife had been found on property that once belonged to O.J. Simpson.
An LAPD spokesman said the discovery of the knife will not lead to Simpson facing charges again in the death of his ex-wife.
{mosads}TMZ reported that the knife had been found by a construction worker when the former football star’s house was being demolished.
The worker then reportedly gave that knife to an off-duty police officer, who kept it as a souvenir for years thinking that the case had been closed.
After that police officer retired, he told another officer about the memento and was reported to authorities.
An LAPD spokesman on Friday confirmed most of the details of the report, although he could not say how the retired police officer got ahold of the knife.
He added that double jeopardy laws would prevent Simpson from facing the same charges he faced in the 90s.
“We could not charge Mr. Simpson with the homicides, because he’s been acquitted,” the spokesman said, adding that the knife will undergo forensics testing to determine whether it is actually related to the murder case.
Simpson was found not guilty in the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman. No weapon was introduced as evidence in the case.
