Scarborough: I have no grudge against Rubio
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough is seeking to squash rumors that he has a grudge with Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio.
Scarborough, who has been critical of Rubio on his show “Morning Joe,” says he hasn’t even met Rubio.
{mosads}“I have never met Rubio. Though we both come from the same state, Florida is a really big state,” Scarborough wrote in Politico.
“We were both in Congress, but I left Washington nearly a decade before Rubio arrived,” he added. “We never crossed paths politically, professionally, or socially. And I know nothing of him personally other than what I read in newspapers.”
The op-ed comes after Rick Santorum, who ended his own presidential campaign and endorsed Rubio earlier this week, struggled to name a single thing Rubio accomplished in the Senate on Scarborough’s show.
Scarborough said the Rubio campaign has been trying to drum up stories of a personal grudge in order to deflect criticism.
“Several reporters have called this afternoon saying the Rubio camp is shopping this story again with increased intensity because of my interview with Rick Santorum,” Scarborough wrote.
“I had the temerity to ask Santorum to list one accomplishment of Rubio,” he continued. “He couldn’t, but the campaign is trying to limit damage by suggesting there is some hidden back story. There isn’t.”
The TV personality said he may be wrong about Rubio’s chances of winning the White House in 2016, “But if I am wrong, it is not because of some long-buried personal grudge between Rubio and myself.”
