PETA to deliver vegan snacks to Oregon militia

An animal-rights group says it will deliver vegan snacks to armed, anti-government militiamen who have taken over a federal building in Oregon.

{mosads}People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said in a press release on Tuesday that staffers will hand-deliver vegan jerky to the cattle ranchers, who have requested provisions for their stand-off with federal authorities.

PETA said the high-protein, non-animal-based products will encourage ranchers to ditch an industry that exploits both animals and the planet.

“These ranchers have a beef with the feds, but their water use and the cattle’s production of methane mean that the world needs them to get out of the beef business,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in an accompanying statement.

The staffers delivering snacks will reportedly bear signs reading, “The End (of Animal Agriculture) Is Nigh: Get Out Now!”

“People from all walks of life are increasingly appalled by the idea of slaughtering animals and realize, too, the harmful impact that animal agriculture has on the environment, so it’s time to face facts,” Newkirk said in the statement.

The Oregon gunmen, led by Ammon Bundy, son of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, said they are not leaving the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge until control of the land is returned to the local community.

They are protesting the prison sentences of two landowners convicted of setting fire to public property.
