Bill Clinton birthplace heavily damaged in Christmas fire

Bill Clinton’s birthplace in Hope, Arkansas was heavily damaged in an early morning Christmas fire, according to CBS News.

{mosads}Arson is suspected thought the fire remains under investigation, Hope Police Chief J.R. Wilson told CBS.

The fire broke out at approximately 3:20 a.m. Friday, according to CBS.

Clinton’s birthplace in Hope is a national historic site that is operated and staffed by the National Park Service.

The fire comes as former first lady Hillary Clinton makes her second run for the White House. Hillary Clinton is the favorite to win the Democratic nomination in 2016, and has been engaged in recent days in a war of words with GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump.

Bill Clinton was born and spent the first four years of his life in the Hope house, which was owned by his grandparents.
