Clinton critic: FBI investigating potential lies to investigators

Edward Klein, a conservative commentator and longtime critic of Hillary Clinton, says he thinks the FBI is investigating whether Clinton and her allies made false statements to investigators, and that the investigation will come to a close before the end of the year.

In an interview with host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” on New York’s AM-970, Klein said his sources the investigation into Clinton and her use of a private email server while secretary of State centers on potential false statements to the FBI.

{mosads}He said the agency “expanded the investigation to a new area, which is: The bureau is investigating whether Hillary and Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills, her closest aides, whether they violated the law by giving false statements to the FBI, and that’s a felony, subject to five years in prison.”

Klein predicted the FBI will hand the case over to the Justice Department for a decision on prosecution by December. If Clinton were to drop from the race, he said, he expects Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) to contemplate a late entry into the race.

“If Hillary drops out because she has to drop out, Elizabeth Warren might seriously — according to my sources — consider coming in and trying to save the party,” he said.

Klein has written a pair of books critical of Clinton, including “Unlikeable: the Problem with Hillary.”

He also told Catsimatidis that he thinks the race for the Republican presidential nod will come down to businessman Donald Trump, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

But he’s guessing Republicans won’t have a candidate by the time they meet for their convention.

“I think the Cleveland convention in July of 2016 will, for the first time in modern memory, be an open convention where no one comes with a majority of the votes,” he said.

“I think it’s going to be one heck of a story to watch because it’s going to be elbows, sharp elbows, fists, you name it, behind the scenes.”

“The Cats Roundtable” premieres in Washington on AM-1260 on Sunday.
