Sunday shows preview: Trump takes over the airwaves
Hours after his curtain call on Saturday Night Live, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump will once again find himself in the national spotlight on the Sunday talk shows.
The businessman will call in for phone interviews on four of the five major shows as he looks to push further ahead in the Republican primary race, perhaps sensing an opening amid the struggles of chief opponent Ben Carson.
{mosads}Carson will make an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation” to try to dispel reports that call into question the veracity of several details from his biography.
Other Republican presidential candidates, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina, will also make appearances in advance of Tuesday’s GOP presidential debate.
On the Democratic side, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will make two appearances to discuss the state of his presidential campaign.
Here are the rest of the expected guests for the Sunday talk shows:
ABC’s “This Week”: Trump will call in to discuss his preparation for the next GOP primary debate, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is looking to revitalize his presidential campaign.
House Intelligence Committee member Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) and ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) will be on to discuss the latest evidence in the Russian plane crash last week that claimed 224 lives. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is suspected of planting a bomb on board the Airbus A321.
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will also discuss the latest in the fight against ISIS in Syria.
CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Carson will be on the show to defend charges that he embellished parts of his biography, followed by a phone interview with Trump.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) will discuss ObamaCare’s open-enrollment season and the plan to provide healthcare to 9/11 first-responders.
Former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) deputy director Michael Morell will be on to analyze the Russian jet crash.
CNN’s “State of the Union”: Trump will call in to discuss his appearance on SNL, followed by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to talk about his presidential campaign and debate preparation.
“Fox News Sunday”: Christie will talk about being left off of the main stage for the Fox Business Network debate Tuesday, as well as a recent speech he gave about drug addiction that went viral on social media last week.
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, will be on the show to talk about whether ISIS is responsible for the Russian passenger plane crash.
NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Trump makes his final appearance for the day in a call-in interview on the show, followed by Fiorina. Sanders will discuss his presidential campaign.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and former director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center Michael Leiter will also be on the show to discuss the Russian plane crash.
