Jon Stewart heads to HBO

Jon Stewart has signed an exclusive four-year deal with HBO and will start working on “short-form digital content,” the network announced Tuesday.

“Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on the ‘Daily Show,’ ” Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming, said in a statement.

{mosads}“He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.”

Stewart expressed excitement about returning to media after turning over hosting responsibilities of “The Daily Show,” Comedy Central’s flagship program, to Trevor Noah in August.

“Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again,” Stewart joked in a statement.

The comedian was known for his political wit as host of “The Daily Show” from 1999 to 2015, regularly interviewing and skewering Washington figures.

He was seen sporting a beard during a visit to Washington in September, where he joined a rally for first responders to the 9/11 attacks seeking federal health benefits.

Stewart previously appeared on HBO on “The Larry Sanders Show” in the 1990s.
