Carson: Congress acts like Obama’s ‘peanut gallery’

GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson said on Friday he is tired of Congress giving up against President Obama.

“Clearly, the Constitution talks about the separation of powers and the checks and balances system,” he told host Pat Robertson on CBN News’s “The 700 Club.”

{mosads}“What has happened recently is that the legislative branch has been acting more like the peanut gallery,” Carson said.

“It has just been watching what the executive branch and the judicial branch do,” he added. “I think that’s what’s leading to their overreach.”

Carson cited Obama’s repeated success implementing executive actions as proof that lawmakers are folding against his administration.

“I’m hopeful that the president’s declaration about gun control will inspire the legislative branch to stand up with a backbone and do something,” he said.

“We need to reestablish the correct order.”

Obama is considering extending background check requirements to more gun dealers, following a mass shooting at an Oregon community college last week.

Christopher Harper Mercer, 26, reportedly killed nine students and wounded nine more before turning the gun on himself during the rampage at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore. 

Carson said tightening gun laws would violate the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

“You cannot compromise the Second Amendment,” he said. “That is a nonstarter for me.”

The retired neurosurgeon then reiterated his argument that gun control helped fuel the rise of Nazi Germany.

“Several years before they began their tyrannical reign they systematically disarmed the populace,” Carson said of the Nazi government.

“We need to understand history,” he added. “We can never allow that to happen in this country.”
