Comedian Rosie O’Donnell on Friday said women’s rights in America are under attack.

O’Donnell said politicians are undoing the progress activists have made, according to CBS News.

“Bigger than any specific people, there is a war on women that is happening in this country,” O’Donnell told host Jenny Hutt on SiriusXM’s radio program “Just Jenny.”

{mosads}“Women fought for equality in this country, and right now, politically, it’s being taken away from us.”

O’Donnell was discussing runner Kiran Gandhi’s decision to run the London Marathon this year without a tampon while menstruating.

The comic argued Friday that demonstrations like Gandhi’s are essential because of increasing political pressure against women.

“Why do you think she did that?” O’Donnell asked of Gandhi’s protest. “When Fox anchors are being accused of being hormonal and ashamed because they have their period?”

“I’d like to take my period blood I no longer have and write, ‘you’re all assh—s,” she added of public figures opposing women’s rights. “I’d like to smear it all over some people’s faces.”

O’Donnell played a role in last week’s Republican presidential debate, after Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly’s questioned Donald Trump about his history of derogatory language toward women.

“When it comes to women, you’ve called them ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs’ and ‘slobs,’ ” Kelly said to Trump during the Aug. 6 event in Cleveland.

“Only Rosie O’Donnell,” Trump interrupted to cheers, reigniting his public feud with the comic.

“Does that sound like the temperament of a man we should elect for president?” Kelly asked the outspoken billionaire in response.

Trump is weathering widespread criticism after saying Kelly “had blood coming out of her wherever” when questioning him at the debate.

But the controversy is not hurting Trump’s status as the front-runner for the GOP’s presidential nomination in 2016. The New York business mogul is currently the heavy favorite for the Republican nomination in national polls.
