Witness contradicts police report in Walter Scott shooting

Walter Scott, Michael Slager

The bystander who filmed the police shooting of South Carolina man Walter Scott said Thursday that he never saw officers try to revive Scott, as an original police report about the incident claimed.

{mosads}“I never saw that,” Feidin Santana said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I don’t know if they did it after I left, but I never saw that.”

Initial police reports indicated that the police had performed CPR on Scott after he was shot in the back by officer Michael Slager, as he ran away from the officer.

Santana said Thursday that he had seen officers check Scott’s pulse and lift up his shirt to check his body for the wounds caused by the gunshots.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Police Chief Eddie Driggers said he thought the officer lifting up Scott’s shirt in the video might have been doing so to administer CPR or other life-saving measures.

The shooting incident has drawn national attention because of the public release of the video filmed by Santana on his phone. In the video, Scott can be seen running as Slager draws his gun and eight shots are heard. Scott was unarmed and is black, and Slager is white.

Slager has been charged with murder and fired from the police force.
