Lawmaker praises release of ‘The Interview’

Rep. Pat Meehan (R-Pa.) on Tuesday said that Sony Pictures made the “right” choice by allowing the controversial comedy “The Interview” to be screened in select theaters this week.

Sony originally canceled the Christmas Day release of “The Interview,” a satirical film that depicts the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. But it reversed course earlier Tuesday.

{mosads}Meehan said authorizing partial release of the film would prevent any message that totalitarian regimes could control the release of movies they don’t like.

“Freedom of expression shouldn’t be subject to whims of a dictator. Decision to make this movie available in a free society the right one,” Meehan wrote on Twitter.

Meehan praised the decision even as he acknowledged he likely won’t see “The Interview” in theaters.

“#Interview may not be for everyone. Probably won’t be seeing it myself. But Americans should get to make that decision for themselves,” Meehan tweeted.
