Report: Secret Service agent gave Obama schedule to Romney campaign

A Secret Service agent assigned to Mitt Romney’s detail during the 2012 presidential campaign revealed details of President Obama’s campaign schedule to Romney aides, according to a report by InsideSources

The Secret Service agent in question reportedly revealed the details while drinking with members of the Romney campaign team, “unprompted and in an apparent attempt to impress” an aide toward whom the agent had made advances, the story said.

{mosads}The details of the president’s schedule were later circulated within the Romney campaign, although advisers to the GOP candidate said it did not impact their campaign strategy.

The agent reportedly also provided joy rides in his Secret Service vehicle with the lights flashing.

InsideSources is a website run by Shawn McCoy, the Iowa communications director for the Romney campaign. The report carries his byline, but cites two separate Romney staffers as confirming the incident in question.

Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigned Wednesday after facing heavy criticism for a series of security breaches, including an incident where a man with a knife was able to scale the White House fence and enter the executive mansion. It was also revealed that an unauthorized contractor with a gun was able to travel in an elevator with President Obama during his trip to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta earlier this month.

The administration has announced it is commissioning a panel of outside experts to take a “hard look” at the agency and develop recommendations to improve performance.
