NBC on Friday said a report released this week ruling out federal charges against New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the George Washington Bridge scandal was incorrect.
{mosads}Federal officials say the investigation is ongoing and no final determination regarding Christie has been made.
“The investigation is continuing,’ Rebekah Carmichael, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Paul Fishman told the Asbury Park Press, which first caught NBC’s correction.
NBC’s Brian Williams of the network’s “Nightly News” reported Thursday night that “federal charges are now ruled out for Chris Christie in the affair that came to be known as ‘Bridgegate.'”
NBC admitted the error on Friday. “An unscripted line of our Nightly News report was imprecise and implied that a final decision had been reached,” an NBC spokesperson said of Williams’ report.
In a separate NBC report that was released Thursday, NBC 4 New York’s Jonathan Dienst quoted unnamed federal officials as saying evidence wasn’t found linking Christie (R) to traffic lane closures, noting that prosecutors were still working on the case.
