Christie defends Goodell
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie voiced support for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday evening as he faces calls to resign over his handling of Ray Rice’s domestic abuse case.
{mosads}During an interview with New Jersey 101.5 FM’s “Ask the Governor” call-in show, Christie hailed Goodell, whom he worked with during the lead-up to the 2014 Super Bowl, as an honest man with great integrity, The Associated Press reported.
Christie said the NFL commissioner admitted he made a mistake with Rice’s punishment but that he should be judged on the totality of his work and keep his job.
Goodell has come under fire after a video surfaced showing the former running back punching his then-fiancee earlier this year.
The Baltimore Ravens terminated Rice’s contract last week after the video went viral. He was initially suspended for two games.
