Feinstein: President ‘justifiably proud’ of Bergdahl release

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said on Sunday that, despite frustration with not being briefed on the prisoner swap that led to the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, President Obama was “justifiably proud” of it.

{mosads}”I think the president was justifiably proud of this, and he wanted to say it to everybody,” the Senate Intelligence Committee chairwoman said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” of the president’s Rose Garden ceremony to announce Bergdahl’s release.

That event has drawn heavy criticism from Republicans in the days following Bergdahl’s release because of lingering questions over the soldier’s alleged desertion and threats posed by five Taliban detainees released from Guantánamo Bay in exchange for Bergdahl.

The White House has also faced backlash from Democrats, chief among them Feinstein, for failing to alert Congress to the negotiations that resulted in the swap. Feinstein again on Sunday expressed frustration with the administration.

“It’s hard to be comfortable, when you really haven’t been briefed on the intricacies of carrying out this agreement,” she said.
