Bergdahl backlash to lead Sunday shows

The controversial deal freeing Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for five Taliban prisoners will likely dominate Sunday news shows.

{mosads}The exchange has come under fire from lawmakers who ripped the Obama administration for not notifying Congress in advance of the swap that freed Taliban leaders from the Guantanamo Bay military facility.

President Obama has made “no apologies” for securing Bergdahl’s release and said he’d do it again.

Here’s the lineup:

ABC’s “This Week” will talk with House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) about the growing criticism surrounding Obama’s decision to negotiate Bergdahl’s release. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) will be featured in discussion.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” – Pre-empted by coverage of the French Open.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” will interview Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) who leads the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Saxby Chambliss, a ranking member of the committee, about the Bergdahl backlash. Feinstein and Chambliss expressed frustration that Congress was not given a 30 day notification, required by law, that the swap would occur.

Host Bob Schieffer will also talk to journalist David Rohde, who was captured by the Taliban in 2008 while reporting in Afghanistan.

CNN’s “State of the Union” will feature interviews with Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) regarding the latest Bergdahl developments. Kerry will be asked if he thinks Bergdahl is being “swiftboated” by conservatives; McCain will weigh in on whether the prisoner swap has put more Americans in danger.

“Fox News Sunday” will discuss the Bergdahl fallout exclusively with former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, who has called the deal to free Bergdahl a “ghastly transaction,” and the former Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. Jack Keane.
