Obama, Wendy Davis meet up in Texas

President Obama met with Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis following his speech Thursday at the Lyndon Johnson Presidential Library.

Davis, a Democratic state legislator who gained national attention for her 11-hour standing filibuster of a bill imposing tighter restrictions on abortion rights in Texas, is facing Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott in the race to replace Republican Gov. Rick Perry.

{mosads}Earlier this week, Abbott openly challenged Davis to appear with Obama during the president’s swing through the deep-red state.

“ObamaCare’s Three Musketeers — President Obama, Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Nancy Pelosi — are convening at a swanky Houston fundraiser tonight; will Sen. Davis be joining her big government allies?” Abbott campaign spokesman Matt Hirsch told The Dallas Morning News. “Last month Sen. Davis said she would welcome President Obama to Texas, so we assume she wouldn’t miss it.”

Davis did not attend Wednesday’s fundraiser, but she appeared in the crowd Thursday for Obama’s remarks at the civil rights summit.

The meeting between Davis and Obama was not public.

In the 2012 presidential election, Republican Mitt Romney beat Obama 52 percent-41 percent in Texas.
