Weiner to pen monthly column for Business Insider
Former congressman and New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner (D) will reenter the political debate with a monthly column in Business Insider.
The former congressman’s column — titled “Weiner!” — will focus on political issues of the day, featuring “his unique insider’s perspective,” according to the publication.
{mosads}”I look forward to a spirited conversation with the BI community,” Weiner said.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 amid backlash after he unintentionally tweeted a lewd picture of himself to his congressional Twitter account. He attempted to rehabilitate his image during last year’s New York mayoral primary.
He briefly led in the polls before further revelations that he continued “sexting” with women even after it sunk his congressional career. He ended up placing fifth in the primary with 5 percent of the vote.
Business Insider alluded to his brashness and his penchant for “political brawls” as well as his policy mind.
“We believe the unique combination of brashness and wonkiness that made Weiner one of last year’s most memorable candidates and one of the most high-profile advocates for health care reform during his time in Congress will make him a perfect fit for Business Insider,” said Hunter Walker, the publication’s politics editor.
