US Capitol goes dark
The U.S. Capitol fell into darkness temporarily Wednesday evening as a power outage hit Washington, D.C.
Exterior flood lights on the Capitol dome as well as surrounding street lights went out while lights remained on inside the building.
{mosads}The office of the Architect of the Capitol said the outage was the result of a power surge from high winds.
One person tweeted that the the Capitol’s architect was notified of the outage at 8:30 p.m. EST and made repairs by 9 p.m. EST.
An intense storm, with winds around 47 mph, knocked power out for thousands across the region, according to the Washington Post.
