Carville: ‘Fundamental’ problems with Obama

Democratic strategist James Carville warned Monday to “stop putting the nails in the coffin” for the Obama presidency. 

“I think we can stop putting the nails in the coffin here. We can admit that there’s some real, deep, fundamental problems with this president. But I think we’re throwing the dirt here too soon,” Carville said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” 

{mosads}Carville, a columnist for The Hill, said if the administration can have HealthCare.gov working well by the end of November, then “that story would fade somewhat in the background.”

The Department of Health and Human Services is aiming to have the ObamaCare website running smoothly by Nov. 30.

“I don’t think that the rollout has been a disaster. It’s been another joke,” he added.

President Obama has already accomplished a lot, Carville said, including keeping the U.S. out of war.

“The deficit is dropping as a percentage of GDP faster than any time since World War II. He saved the auto industry. Healthcare costs are flattening better than any time in the last 20 years. Teenage pregnancy is at an all-time low.”

Obama’s recent poll numbers have dropped to around 40 percent, marking some of his lowest job-approval ratings during his administration.

A Pew Research Center survey on Friday showed since December 2012, the president’s approval has slipped 14 percentage points, indicating the struggle he’s had in his second term.
