Romney on Allen West as VP: ‘All suggestions are welcome’

{mosads}Romney smiled and thanked the supporter for his comment.

“All suggestions are welcome,” Romney said.

Later in the town hall, Romney was asked if he would name his vice president “before or after” the Republican convention.

“Yes,” Romney quipped.

But Romney provided little insight beyond that, telling supporters at the Colorado event he couldn’t provide a timeline on his vice presidential selection.

But the Republican hopeful pledged that “the person I choose you will look at and say ‘that person could be president if necessary.’ “

West, a Tea Party favorite, told Fox News on Monday night that he was not being vetted as a vice presidential candidate.

“Well, if someone is doing it, they have not let me know,” West said. “And my biggest focus is to be a good congressional representative. And if I have to kind of be that voice crying out in the wilderness right now, I’ll continue to do that because this country that I love so dearly, I’m not going to sit around and watch anyone destroy it or take it down the road to perdition.”

But some vice presidential hopefuls do look to be under more careful consideration. Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), considered among the favorites for the job, told ABC News he had met with the Romney campaign at least three times to discuss the vice presidential job.
