Romney meets quietly with Boehner

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) met with Mitt Romney in Atlanta on Monday, the first time the two had seen each other since the former Massachusetts governor secured the delegates for the GOP presidential nomination.

“The Speaker and the Governor met for about an hour yesterday and discussed ways they can work together over the months ahead,” said Cory Fritz, a spokesman for Boehner, in a statement.

Boehner was fundraising in Atlanta during the House recess this week; Romney had a fundraiser of his own scheduled in the city.

{mosads}The House Speaker endorsed Romney in April after it became obvious that Romney would likely sew up the GOP nomination.

“I will be proud to support Mitt Romney and do everything I can to help him win,” Boehner said, arguing Romney’s economic plan contrasted “sharply with the failed economic policies of President Obama.”

The meeting between Boehner and Romney was not publicized and Romney’s traveling press were not informed that the duo would confer. Romney has been secretive to date about private meetings with congressional officials. 

In May, Romney met quietly with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) after a campaign stop in Washington.
