New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) — who has been one of the main public officials calling for Americans to wear masks during the coronavirus pandemic — stayed on brand Saturday, wishing everyone who was wearing a mask a “Happy Saturday.”
New York, once the epicenter of the pandemic in the U.S., has been successful in flattening its curve, even as a resurgence of the virus has happened across the American South and the rest of the country.
The state reported 750 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, a positivity rate of 1.05.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) offered a snippy retort to Cuomo, tweeting, “[T]o all the New Yorkers whom the governor excluded—sitting at home with your family happily sans mask—happy Saturday to you too!”
