Jury convicts the son of Rep. Chaka Fattah

The son of Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) was convicted Thursday on multiple charges including bank and tax fraud, according to multiple media reports
 
Chaka “Chip” Fattah Jr. was convicted by a jury on 22 of 23 counts for scamming banks and the IRS over several years, among other charges, according to reports.
 
{mosads}Prosecutors said Fattah Jr. and a business partner took out more than $100,000 in business loans in 2005 based on income tax returns for a company they hadn’t yet created, then spent the money on a BMW, clothes and restaurants, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer
 
He was also accused of submitting false tax returns and defrauding a local school district while working for a for-profit education firm. His sentencing is slated for Feb. 3, according to The Associated Press.
 
Rep. Fattah is the subject of a separate legal case over federal grants and donations, with a trial slated for May. He has denied any wrongdoing.
