Fiorina on Calif. shooting: ‘It sure looks like Islamic extremism’
Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said Thursday morning that she believes the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., appears to be Islamic terrorism.
“Everything points to a terrorist attack, a homegrown terrorist attack,” the former Hewlett-Packard CEO said during an interview on “Fox and Friends.”
{mosads}”We can’t prejudge the investigation, but it sure looks like Islamic extremism and terrorism to me. That’s what it looks like,” Fiorina added later.
“Now we’ll see what the FBI comes up with, but you have Muslims who clearly planned an attack,” Fiorina said.
San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said Wednesday that “at the minimum we have a domestic terrorism-type situation that occurred here.”
“They came prepared to do what they did and they were on a mission,” he said.
Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, two armed suspects in Wednesday’s shooting that left 14 people dead and more than a dozen others injured, were later killed by police. They were reportedly married.
Co-workers of Farook told The Los Angeles Times that he was a devout Muslim, though he rarely spoke of his faith in the office. Fiorina noted that the husband and wife had recently returned from Saudi Arabia.
“These are mass murderers who were Muslim and who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia. That’s what we know,” Fiorina said.
The Republican candidate also noted the shooting represented “a new kind of attack,” because the suspects apparently were intent on surviving the shooting.
President Obama told reporters in the Oval Office later Thursday morning that “it is possible that this was terrorist related, but we don’t know.”
“It’s also possible that this was workplace related,” Obama added.
