Texas Sen. John Cornyn (R) could face a tough a re-election race, according to a poll commissioned by kos. The poll, conducted for the blogger by Research 2000, shows Cornyn leading Democrat Rick Noriega by just four points. Another poll, by Rasmussen, also has the same small margin. There’s less hope for the Democrats hoping to win the state’s electoral votes, as John McCain holds double-digit leads over both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in Texas, according to the poll. Turning to the legislation, Hunter offers a deal to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Sen. John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) that the blogger hopes would satisfy their urges for a deal with the Bush administration over the latest intelligence bill. Hunter writes that opponents of retroactive immunity for telecom companies would be willing to drop their outrage in exchange for a program that would allow any member of the public to spy on members of Congress.
