Baylor University goes into brief lockdown after shooting reported near campus

Baylor University briefly went on lockdown Thursday after a shooting was reported near campus.

The university in Waco, Texas told students to seek shelter due to the apparent shooting, but later noted that local police had issued an all-clear.

{mosads}”Waco Police Department reported a shooting at the Eastgate Apartments at 1912 South Fifth Street,” the university tweeted, urging students to “seek secure shelter immediately, away from doors and windows.”

“The Waco Police Department has given the all clear. It is now safe to resume normal activities on campus,” the school later tweeted.

Waco Police Department spokesman Garen Bynum told The Hill that the incident occurred 10 to 15 blocks away from campus and did not appear to be related to Baylor.

He said that a 22-year-old man was shot in the arm, but that the man was not a Baylor student and that his injuries were not life threatening.

Bynum said the department was not sure whether there was one or multiple suspects, but that the person or people fled north toward the general direction of the campus.

He added that the department does not have a reason to believe Baylor students are in danger.
