Buzz Aldrin shared a photo on Thursday of him and fellow astronauts as they prepared for the first moon landing in honor of the day’s milestone: 50 years since they took off for the mission.
“Exactly 50 years ago today, we were on our way to the Moon! It was an honor to work with this crew and a privilege to complete the mission of a lifetime,” Aldrin tweeted.
Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) tweeted that Aldrin’s post is the ultimate “Throwback Thursday.”
“#ThrowbackThursday is officially over. This can’t be outdone,” Mast tweeted.
NASA plans to send more Americans to the moon, including the first woman, by 2024 as part of Apollo’s twin project named Artemis. {mosads}
The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum commemorated the moon landing anniversary by projecting an image of the Saturn V rocket‘s launch on the Washington Monument on Tuesday night.
