Cheney nixed from 2020 White House holiday party following anti-Trump statement

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) revealed that she was uninvited from President Trump’s 2020 White House holiday party after questioning his claims of widespread voter fraud in that year’s election.

In her new book, “Oath and Honor,” Cheney recalls that the snub came after she released a statement calling on Trump to provide evidence for his baseless election fraud claims.

“A few days after I issued my November 20 statement calling on Trump to produce evidence of fraud and respect the sanctity of our elections, my chief of staff, Kara Ahern, got a call from a staffer in the White House,” she wrote, according to acquired by Business Insider. “He informed her that I was off the guest list for the White House congressional holiday party.”

But she claimed that she had no plans to attend anyway.

“Invites to these parties are highly coveted by most members of Congress, but I hadn’t gone during any of the previous years I’d been in Congress, and I hadn’t planned to attend this one,” she continued. “I was amused that whoever gave the instruction to disinvite me thought I’d view it as a punishment.”

Cheney quickly became one of the loudest critics of the former president in the months following, especially after the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. She later served as one of two Republicans on the House Jan. 6 committee.

House Republicans eventually took away her leadership role, and she was effectively forced from office due to her adamant anti-Trump stance. She was also censured by the Wyoming Republican Party.

Cheney has hinted at a potential 2024 presidential run in recent weeks, amid some public desire for a third-party candidate separate from President Biden and Trump.
