Former President Obama on Tuesday volunteered at the Greater Chicago Food Depository as volunteers prepared food ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

“Thanks to the Chicago @FoodDepository team for all you do and to the volunteers who are doing great work and let me crash today. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!” Obama tweeted, sharing a video from the organization that included snippets of his visit.

“You guys are doing such a great job helping out. I’m really proud of you,” he told a young girl.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository is the main food bank for Obama’s native city of Chicago. The organization provides food pantries and mobile food banks for the homeless and other individuals struggling with hunger.

While in Chicago this week, the former president spoke at the Obama Foundation Summit, a two-day leadership conference. In his remarks on Monday, Obama discussed his time as a community organizer and warned that “racism” and “hate” are plaguing the country.
