Avenatti suggests he could run against Trump in 2020

Attorney Michael Avenatti suggested Wednesday that he could run against President Trump in 2020.

Avenatti, who is representing adult-film actress Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against Trump and his longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen, said on Twitter that he would run if he thinks no other candidate could beat Trump in a re-election bid.

“IF (big) he seeks re-election, I will run, but only if I think that there is no other candidate in the race that has a REAL chance at beating him,” Avenatti wrote. “We can’t relive 2016.  I love this country, our values and our people too much to sit by while they are destroyed.”

Avenatti’s tweet came in response to an earlier Twitter thread in which the attorney said “only a street fighter” can take on Trump, prompting one user to ask when Avenatti was announcing his 2020 run.

“Be clear — only a street fighter has a chance at displacing the ‘King,’” he wrote. “Otherwise, this country and its principles will be in pieces and non-recognizable.”

Avenatti is representing Daniels in her defamation case against Trump and Cohen. Daniels has claimed that she had an affair with the president in 2006 and is suing to void a nondisclosure agreement preventing her from discussing it.

Avenatti has become a frequent media presence, making numerous network appearances and often taking to Twitter to criticize the president and his associates.
