FBI agent faces charges for accidentally shooting man in nightclub

The off-duty FBI agent who accidentally shot a man at a Denver nightclub earlier this month has been arrested and faces charges of second-degree assault, according to jail records.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office said the officer, Chase Bishop, has yet to be formally charged, Denver’s 9News reported.

Bishop was scheduled to appear before the Denver County Court on Tuesday morning and is being held at the Denver Downtown Detention Center, according to the records.

In a video of the shooting that went viral, Bishop’s gun falls to the ground after he does a backflip on the dance floor. As Bishop reaches for his weapon, it discharges, hitting another person in the leg.

Bishop is then seen tucking the weapon into his waistband, raising his hands and backing away from the crowd.

The person Bishop shot was reported to have been hospitalized with a “good prognosis.”

Bishop is currently under investigation for the incident. According to multiple sources that spoke with 9 News, Bishop was not assigned to the Denver office but instead works from Washington, D.C.

Earlier this month, Mile High Spirits, the Denver nightclub, offered “complimentary drinks forever” to the man Bishop shot.
