Workers have begun filling in a sinkhole that opened on the White House’s North Lawn last week.
National Park Service personnel were spotted by White House correspondents filling in the hole with gravel on Tuesday and blocking off sidewalks near the entrance to the press briefing room.
{mosads}Officials determined that the hole posed no threat to the White House or its staff, but closed off the area to begin filling it in and re-sodding the area.
ABC White House correspondent Tara Palmeri remarked in a tweet that the construction equipment near the site “feels excessive.”
A spokeswoman for the park service said the sinkhole was caused by heavier-than-normal rainfall in recent weeks.
