Waffle House shooting hero posts photo with his hero, Emma González

James Shaw Jr., the man hailed as a hero after wrestling a gun away from a shooter at a Waffle House last month, posted a photo Saturday with Parkland high school shooting survivor Emma González, calling her one of his heroes.

Shaw posted the photo after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas student had herself called Shaw her hero following the Waffle House incident last month.

He had met with other survivors of the deadly high school shooting as well.

During the incident, Shaw wrestled a rifle away from the gunman who had opened fire at the eatery, killing four people. Police credited Shaw with saving lives.

Shaw later started a crowdsourcing fund online for the families of the four people killed in the shooting, raising more than $230,000.

González, meanwhile, has been one of the most vocal students advocating for stricter gun control laws after the shooting at her Florida high school left 17 students and faculty dead.

González’s own tweet about Shaw late last month was considered by many at the time to be a response to a similar tweet from rapper Kanye West where he called her his hero.

West has recently been in the spotlight for expressing his support for President Trump and other comments.
